Commonly referred to as the toughest job you’ll ever love, the Peace Corps experience is a unique opportunity to live and work at the grassroots level in the developing world. Individuals who carry out this service become vessels of knowledge concerning countries and peoples that are all too commonly unknown or misunderstood by many Americans. Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) are charged with the goal of promoting a better understanding of their host country once they return to the U.S. and in most instances are jumping at the opportunity to discuss the unique world in which they lived.
The overall purpose of this initiative is to carry out this 3rd goal of the Peace Corps in the area served by the LPCA by creating an avenue through which RPCVs can discuss their experiences at various venues throughout the state of Louisiana. The 3rd Goal actively seeks out events for members of the LPCA to present on and discuss a variety of aspects of their life in the Peace Corps and help to promote a better understanding of the culture and people that they served.
Participation varies from individual speeches to group presentations as well as informal discussions. The 3rd Goal will be active in a variety of venues including but not limited to:
- colleges and universities
- local businesses
- cultural heritage fairs and celebrations
- diversity events
- job fairs
